Tradition

What is a Ruracio?

The Ruracio is the Kikuyu dowry ceremony, the beautiful tradition where the groom's family visits the bride's home to ask for her hand, bringing gifts as a sign of honour and gratitude to the family that raised her. It is a day of negotiation done with laughter, proverbs, song and plenty of food. Two families becoming one.
